I didn’t get a chance to spring clean during COVID – did you?

I am one of the fortunate ones who remained gainfully employed as an Advisory Board Chair and HR Consultant during COVID-19.  However, what this has meant is that it has been business as usual in the new usual.  While others had time to spring clean their homes, improve their practices at work, and do those things that they had put off for a future time, I didn’t.  What about you?  If this resonates for you, then keep reading for a few tips.

What this has meant is that I now need to ensure that what I am doing focuses on having my activity aligned with my business strategy and I am not simply “busy being busy”.

I find that it is really important to have a plan.  Fail to plan, plan to fail.  Have you written down your financial, system, client and staff goal for 2020/21 yet?  If not, grab a pen and by the end of this article you will have yours.

Financial Goal – what is your financial goal for the next 12 months?  Do you want to increase revenue?  Or are you focusing on gross profit?  Is EBIT or EBITDA what you want to focus on?  Whatever it is, write it down.

System Goal – what is the system that you know you need to improve in the next 12 months?  Is it improving your delivery in full on time (DIFOT)?  Or is it implementing a new ERP?  Is it ISO accreditation?  Pick a system goal that will improve both internal and external satisfaction and you will see performance and productivity results.

Clients – what is your client or market goal?  Is it to define your market or market proposition?  Is it a marketing or branding strategy?  Is it focusing on your Net Promoter Score?  Is it customer satisfaction?  Or customer retention?  Or is it referrals?  Clarify what your goal is and focus on it for the next 12 months.

Staff – what is your staff or learning goal?  Is it staff engagement?  Or staff satisfaction?  Or is it the Net Promoter Score?  Is it your Lost Time Injury rate?  Or your Sick Leave?  Or turnover? Pick one goal and have this as the foundation for your people focus for the next 12 months.
